Aybar Continues Romp

Erick Aybar just keeps hitting.  Friday night he accounted for all of Licey‘s offense, leading his team to a 2-1 victory over Kendry Morales‘  team, Gigantes del Cibao (game recap here).

Aybar was 2-3, with a run scored, two RBI, and a walk.  He homered in the third inning for Licey’s first run and then, in the bottom of the ninth, delivered the walk-off single that assured Licey a spot in the DWL championship series.

Aybar is now batting .346, with one home run and 12 RBI in 18 postseason games.

Former Angel Ramon Ortiz pitched six strong innings for Licey, giving up one run on two hits while striking out three.  He took the no-decision in his team’s win.

Kendry Morales went 1-3, with an RBI, in the game.  Kendry and Gigantes (10-7 in tournament play) now find themselves tied with Azucareros (also 10-7), battling for the final championship series bid, after Azucareros’ game against Aguilas (2-14) was postponed due to rain.

Angels, and former Angels, continue to have quite an impact on the Dominican Winter League postseason.
