The Deep End

Michael Becker at the Press-Enterprise Angels Blog quotes Mike Scioscia as saying about the Angels’ bullpen, “We have more depth and more versatility than we’ve had in quite some time.

Despite this depth, Becker reports, the Angels are still keeping an eye on Chad Cordero.  The Angels were one of about a dozen teams that watched Cordero pitch in early January as well.

Cordero’s “first choice” has been reported to be the Angels.  He was born and raised in Southern California and was even an Angels’ usher during the 2002 season.

At the right price, a healthy Cordero is both a hedge against bullpen injuries (or, perhaps, a source of them) and a potentially dominant arm.  As they say, you can never have enough pitching (especially if it arrives on the cheap).
